• Aputure Monthly Competition Win

company-logoOne of the groups that I am in on Flickr runs a monthly competition in which five photos are selected from the pool at the end of the month and are entered into the monthly competition. I am a member of the group as I have been keeping my eye on a number of the products that they offer – particularly flash triggers. This month, one of my photos, spinning was entered by them into the monthly competition, and it won! Thanks to all those who voted for me. Once I have received the prize from the competition, I will write a review here for it. My winning photograph is of me spinning a child around. Unfortunately I didn’t have much in the way of equipment with me so was limited to not being able to use any kind of strobe to improve the image. As a result, I had to select a shutter speed which would be slow enough to show the motion in the background whilst keeping the face of the child as sharp as possible. Exposure settings:

    • Focal length: 11mm
    • Aperture: f/5.6
    • Shutter speed: 1/320s
    • ISO: 100

One of the biggest challenges with this shot was that it was taken on a sunny day. As such, the quality of the exposure was very much dependent on the position that we were in when the photo was taken. This was something which I could not control as I was taking the photos myself (and thus was reliant on the camera’s timer). Two of the images that I took during this session are below (including the competition-winning photo):
