• Ubuntu – Taking a screenshot of a region

Ever since using a MAC (at work), I have really liked the feature to take screenshots of sections of the screen using a certain key combination (CMD + Shift + 4 if my memory served me correctly – I never need to think about it any more). I’ve known about various tools which have allowed me to do this in Ubuntu, but not something that has allowed me to do with the a sequence of key-presses – until now. I don’t know how new-a-feature it is, but pressing Shift + PrintScreen (or in my case, Shift + Fn + PrintScreen) allows the selection of a region of the screen to grab and save as an image.

PrintScreen takes a screenshot of the entire screen

Alt + PrintScreen takes a screenshot of the focussed window

Shift + PrintScreen allows selection of a region
